The idea has apparently been abandoned, so the live tiles would just live on for a little longer. If anything, Microsoft was even believed to be looking into a Start menu without live tiles, all for a more static design similar to the one in Windows 10X. Right now, Microsoft has clearly embraced a very slow overhaul of the live tiles, so for the time being, let’s just stick with the theme-aware design. Is this something that we could eventually see in Windows 10? I highly doubt it, or if it ever happens, you’d better not hold your breath for it. The To-Do live tile, for instance, should allow users to just check the tasks that have already been completed, all without the need for running the app for the whole thing. ![]() Live tiles themselves could also allow for interaction beyond the point where you can just click on them to launch the apps. The design that you see here, and which was shared on Twitter by proposes a substantially refined look for live tiles, and at first glance, it’s exactly what users want Microsoft to do in the first place. And this is where user concepts come into play. However, with a small workaround, you can still display live Mail, Calendar and Contact/People data on the Windows 8 Start Screen and Lock Screen while using Outlook as the source.
